COVID-19 and First Christian Church

As we continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19, we are committed to finding ways to stay connected as a faith community while serving the city of San Angelo.

Below are a few ways we are looking forward to serving our community through prayer, outreach, and worship.

    Outreach

On Monday, April 20th, from 10:30-3:30 pm, we will open our weekly food pantry with a modified serving schedule for the safety of our volunteers and clients.

Weather permitting, we will have a drive-through service line where volunteers will give pre-packed food boxes to those in need. If it rains, clients can come inside to grab a box.

Our average participation has increased from about 60 families to over a 130.

Join us for Poetry as Prayer!

We will post a YouTube Link on Tuesday, April 21st with a video meditation/teaching/prayer from Kent Fish.

~ Love Poems from God ~

What if poetry could be our prayer? What if it could teach us to be more reverent, more kind, more mindful, more generous? And lead us to see the good, the true, the beautiful more clearly?

The poet Mary Oliver describes the art of poetry as the “endless work of paying attention.” This might also define prayer. Yet the importance of paying attention is so often lost on us with the busyness and fast-moving pace of everyday life.

This slowed-down period of sheltering might be the perfect time to cultivate a possibly new way of experiencing the sacred. Settle in with a glass of wine or cup of tea, light a candle, and quietly sit with us in this weekly meditation as we discover Love Poems from God.

    Take a chance.

    Meals for the Elderly

We will provide drives for Meals for the Elderly during the month of April. We have about 110 routes to fill. For many home bound elderly, the meals they receive from Meals for the Elderly are the only hot meals they get.
